Throwback Thursday - Bench

My mom picked up this bench last summer from one of her friends.  It is huge and heavy, but looked really cool.  My mom wanted it for my parents cabin, but she wanted it to be white.  So I got to work....

My mom also decided that she didn't want the drawers, that shelves would be better.  A few pieces of plywood and the drawers were good to go {away}...

Now this sits at their cabin, and holds all our beach towels and the beach bag....


Again, like the desk I used rustoleum enamel. If you want to paint anything durable, you need to try this.  Works so well.

Kendall's Dresser

The other day I showed you the dresser that I was going to paint for Kendall.  Here it is below:

I tried to get a picture of Kendall with the dresser - however, Henry and Zoey were with me, so they were more fun than the dresser.  I think she liked it though :)

Throwback Thursday - Dresser

 One of our friends was having their second child... and they needed a new dresser for the nursery.  They had this old dresser, but wanted it to get a face lift.  I was so excited to step in and help. This was about a year and a half ago!

My favorite part of this dresser were the legs - all curvy and white...

Throwback Thursday - Our TV Console

So I was looking around our house the other day, and realized how many things that we have done ourselves.  I mean, I know that we enjoy doing it, but over the 4 years, we have DIYed our way through so many things in our house.  So, I decided that I am going to share some of the things that may not have made their way to this blog, even if we did them a while ago - Hence the 'Throwback' 

2 years ago, I found this really cool console on Craigslist.  I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but I needed it. 

While it was not in the worst shape, it was not my style at all!  The wood on top looked really orange (this picture does not do it justice)

And the antiquing on the doors just made it look dirty.  

But I loved the shape, and some of the features it had.... 

And now here it is in our living room.  

Because it was going to house our TV components, I knew that no matter how hard we tried, the doors would be open the majority of the time.... so I took the extra time and painted the inside orange.  It makes it so fun and modern.

I think that this is still one of my favorite pieces that I have done.  One, because I did it without Nate's help... And while I love doing things with him, I feel pride that I did it myself.  And because I wasn't lazy/too excited to get it in the house and took that extra time to add the orange.  It really makes the piece.

Vintage Fan

While we always have a long list of projects to get done around the house, we usually have a couple fun things cookin'

Last year Meg picked up a vintage fan at a garage sale. While it was in pretty good shape it needed some work. (UPDATE: We found the before pictures of the fan) She had been looking for one for quite a while and I don't mind the industrial look around the house. There are quite a few places that have them for sale but we thought we would take it to a different level :)

The fan originally looked similar to this color, maybe a bit darker green.

And here is the final product! It runs albeit not extremely well. It has no on/off switch and maybe that's how they were originally?
